I started my career in security and protection way back in the '80s on the doors. I then attended a six-week Close Protection training course and ended up travelling the world looking after the rich (but not so famous). Eventually, for the Worldwide Federation of Bodyguards, I became a trainer of bodyguards until the WFB was sold in the year 2000 to an Icelandic subsidiary of Securitas. Although I still do the occasional close protection contract overseas, I now run the British Bodyguard Association which has become the biggest association of its kind in the world. This takes a lot of my time, but I am also an author and specialise in writing about true crime, nightclub security and executive protection.

I also recently founded the National Door Supervisors Association as well as produce The Circuit, an on-line magazine for the Close Protection community, and On The Doors, a hard-copy magazine for the Door Supervisor community.
